Barry is in his 11th season as Head Coach of the Greely High School Varsity Hockey Team.  Barry grew up in Manchester, NH., played youth hockey for the Manchester Flames travel teams and played high school hockey at Manchester Central, which won consecutive state titles in Barry's junior and senior years.  Barry was a captain his senior year (80-81).  Barry played junior varsity hockey at Div. II Babson College and has enjoyed playing competitive mens league hockey in Portland since the late '80's.  He was voted Class B West Coach of the Year in 1996-97 and again in 2003-04.  A 1985 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he now teaches English at Greely High School and also does freelance writing.
MATT GILBERT
Varsity Assistant Coach

Matt is behind the bench for his sixth season with Greely Hockey. He was instrumental in rebuilding the Junior Varsity Program at Greely and is now in his third year at the varsity level.  Matt grew up in Manchester, NH, played for the Manchester Flames travel teams, and played for Manchester Memorial High School, where he captained the team his senior year (1989) as they won the state title.  Matt attended Division III Keene State College where he played baseball as a DH and catcher. Matt went on to become a player/coach for the Keene State College Club Hockey team from '89-'92.  No stranger to hockey rinks in the local Portland area, Matt has played for several men’s league hockey teams. Matt graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2003 from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Studies. Matt, who is certified as a personal trainer and a NYSCA coach in hockey, football, baseball, and softball, is currently the Athletics Coordinator & Facilities Scheduler for the Town of Falmouth.
DAMIAN BOLDUC
Junior Varsity Coach

Damian is happy to be back in his second year with the Greely High Scool Coaching Staff as the Junior Varsity Coach.  He is no stranger to the Greely Boys and Fans, as he began coaching the Middle School A and B teams in 1999.  He has also coached Casco Bay Youth Hockey Teams at the Squirt, Peewee, Bantam and Midget levels.  Damian grew up in Waterville, Maine, in a serious hockey family, and has been playing hockey since he was 5-years old.  He was a member of the State Championship Travel teams at the Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam Levels, and continued his success at Waterville High School where his team captured Maine State Class A Championship in 1979.  Damian played one season at St. Pauls in Concord, NH and after graduation moved up to the UMaine Division 1 program.  He has continued to play hockey in the local Portland mens leagues for the past 13 years.
We are very happy to have Damian behind the bench for our Boys.
DON HAWKINS
Girls Head Coach

Just to give you an idea of how much hockey is in "Hawk's" veins, the first car he learned to drive was actually a Zamboni!  He has coached many teams over the years including Greely Middle School teams and many Casco Bay teams (from mites to midgets).  He played hockey at St. Francis College and started coaching youth hockey in Orono in 1976.  He became a certified referee back in 1975 and has continued to actively Referee.  A biking nut (crank-head) he now logs over one-hundred miles per week, commuting to work round trip from Cumberland to South Portland.   He installed the first sheet of ice at PIA and has worked there ever since.  Hawk also became an off-ice official at Portland Pirates games.  Don knows the game inside and out and was instrumental in starting the Girls Program.  He is instantly recognized by his good-natured laughter and grizzled beard. His friendly nature is a inspiration to all those who come into contact with him.
NATE WARING
Girls Assistant Coach

Nate Waring returns as a second-year assistant Varsity Coach for the Greely Lady Rangers.  Nate has been on the ice his whole life growing up in Holden, Maine, playing hockey for the Penobscot Valley Hockey Conference in the Bangor area,

DIANE GRAY
A - Team Assistant Coach
Diane will be the assistant coach of the B team working with John MacDonald. Diane started playing organized hockey in 1973 in Lewiston on the boys' Junior-High School team. This was a landmark event, as she was the first Junior-High School hockey player in Maine, and had her petition heard by the Maine Human Rights Commission to grant her the right to play. Her father also formed a girl's hockey team that traveled to Portland, Me., NH, and Mass to play games. After High School, Diane attended UNH and played Varsity Women's Ice Hockey from 1978-1982, where the team record was 52-1-1 captured the EAIAW 's every year. Diane was on the New England All-Star team for Division I women's ice hockey for two of those seasons. She is currently playing in the Greater Portland Women's Ice Hockey league and on two travel hockey teams. She has coaching experience with the Casco Bay Youth Hockey and MYHL programs, in the initiation through PeeWee levels. Hockey is in her blood and a passion with her family, as her children also play as well as her husband.

GORDIE SCANNELL
Girls Assistant Coach

Coach Scannell joins us for the first time this year, and brings a lifetime of hockey experience with him to the ice.  Gordie grew up in Belmont, Mass playing pickup and youth hockey.  Gordie played his high school hockey at Belmont Hill School,  a boys prep school 10 miles west of Boston with a strong hockey tradition, and was captain of its 1971 team. I played Freshman, Junior Varsity and a little Varsity hockey at Harvard, 1971 through 1975.  After college, Gordie coached the 1976/1977 edition of the Town of Jaca, Spain's entry in the Spanish National Hockey League, not to be mistaken for the NHL!  Gordie explained that Spaniards had a lot of heart and a unique approach to hockey, but hockey was not indigenous, and he jokes that the team taught him more about Spain than he taught them about hockey.  Coach Scannell is an active runner, cross-country skier and sailor, and has participated in more than 25 running marathons, including 10 times as an official entrant in the Boston Marathon, and has competed in cross-country ski events across New England and Quebec.
