Game Notes for
3-2 Win over Brunswick
Our Fabulous Lady Rangers overcame an early deficit to defeat the Brunswick Dragons on their home ice at Dayton Ice Arena Tuesday Night. Goals were scored by Annabelle "Dragon-Slayer" Knight, assisted by Jenna Pickett; Goal by Lela "headfirst" Hull with the assists to Lindsay and Annabelle, and the last goal by Janna Hawkins.. Greely did a fantastic job containing several of the Dragons top skaters during a tremendous team effort. Notable plays included a tremendous save by Elizabeth Snyder on a breakaway by Brunswick.
Next opponent is NYA, who has Blistered the Dragons twice this season by the scores of 10-1 and 6-3.

Game Notes for 01/08/2004 Game
against NYA, Loss 0-3
Our Lady Rangers lost to the NYA Panthers this evening at FIC. The Panthers strong individual play and puck control proved too much for the Rangers. The Rangers had several excellent chances to score, but strong defensive efforts and fortunate bounces kept the puck out of the Panther net.

GAME NOTES - GREELY LADY RANGERS DEFEAT WINSLOW
The Lady Rangers extended their wining streak to two in a row over the Winslow Black Raiders through a 4-1 win on home ice at FIC. In the last two meetings our Ladies have outscored the Black Raiders 9-1. In this game our Ladies dominated the majority of the play through the game using three lines and a strong, aggressive defense. The offense generated extended pressure by controlling the puck and seeing open space.

Game Jan 29 Game Vs Cony L 0-5
Game Notes
Cony came to play, and they dominated our Lady Rangers. Cony went up by four goals in the first period, before the Rangers really got warmed up. Elizabeth made some really nice stops, as she was pressured regularly. We all had a scare from an accidental crash; Janna "wound-up" with the puck from behind the net and was at full-speed when, at the top of the circle, she collided helmet to helmet with a Cony skater. Our Janna was fine, but the Cony skater was injured. Coach Hawkins followed up the next day and reported that the Cony skater was fine, but a little bruised.

Game Jan 31 Game Vs Southern Maine Blaze W4-1
Our Lady Rangers dominated the play in this game against the blaze. The game was not on our original schedule and was organized at the last minute, but our Lady Rangers played like they had been planning on this for a while.

Game Feb 1 Game Vs St. Dom's at the SMCC L 1-5
Our Rangers dominated the play in the first period and led by a goal. The goal was scored by Marie, on a end to end drive to the net. Things were looking good for the Rangers and everyone was playing intense and with confidence. In the second period the top skaters for the Saints were blessed with two goals, with the second goal sliding over the red line just 2.2 seconds before the period ended. The Rangers had their chances in the third period, but the Saint goalie made all the stops and their defense really shutdown any chance of rebounds. Saint goals were scored on great rushes and hot shots. The second period featured the pipe ringing at the Greely end, as the Saints hit the post on one shot and puck bounced lively to the high slot, where another Saint hit the top crossbar. The Ranger passing was working, and our Ladies were hustling and working hard to keep the puck in the St. Doms end, but managed just one goal as the Saints played very good defense, helping them secure this victory.

Ouch, our Ladies ran into a very strong team this afternoon at NYA. The Lady Panthers controlled the puck well and outshot our Ladies 26-8. Elizabeth made some great saves as the Panthers had many high quality shots. The ones that made it though the Snyder wall were low crease shots on rebounds. Greely had some quality opportunities as well, as they did keep extended pressure in the Panther end, but were unable to make contact with the twine. Greely is 0-2 against NYA this season.

Ouch, again. Our Ladies are in a bit of a slump over the last five games going 1-5 against the toughest part of our schedule. Cony has definitely had our number on the ice this season, as we have gone 0-3 against their skilled skaters, being outscored 4-18. Coach Hawkins beefed-up the defense this game in an effort to shut down their top skaters; and it was effective but did not prevent our loss.. Our Ladies played Cony really tough early in the game as they held off the attack for most of the first and second period. Greely fell behind 0-3 at the end of the first period, and the score was 0-4 at the end of the second. Cony broke free for a spurt of goals in the third period. The lone Greely goal was scored by Lela as our Ladies fought hard for rebounds low and in the crease.
Being winless in our last 3 games may seem daunting as we face the most important game of the month - Our rubber-match against Cape. The Lady Rangers have really stepped up their play against NYA, St Doms and Cony, and will be primed and ready for revenge against the Capers.

Game Feb 11 Game Vs Cape L 0-4
Our Ladies played tough against a short, skilled Cape bench and came up scoreless again in our second game against the Capers. Elizabeth Snyder provided an number of spectacular saves, as the Capers tested her frequently. Casey Jordan of Cape had some good shots from left point, where Elizabeth looked very sharp. Casey also rang the post loudly on an offensive rush with less than two minutes on the clock, but Elizabeth held strong. Crystal Brooks of Cape picked up another shutout against Greely, as she made some key stops early in the game to hold off our Ladies. The game featured a lot of good end to end action, but our Lady Rangers couldn't muster a strong offense against this stubborn Cape team. The girls are skating very well, and they are obviously improving as they continue to prepare for the coming tournament.

Game Feb 15 Game Vs Winthrop T 2-2
The Greely Lady Rangers played an evening game in the wonderful Kents Hill Alfond arena this Sunday night, and skated to a 2-2 tie with the Winthrop Ramblers. It was the Ramblers second game today, as they had defeated Cony earlier by the score 4-3. Pretty impressive...
The Ramblers went up 1-0, capitalizing on a defensive turnover in our end and surprising Elizabeth. Megan Martelle tied the score after a lengthy battle near the Rambler net. It was tough to say but it looked like she scored on a backhand from low, left near the crease. Greely took the lead 2-1 on a absolutely wonderful passing play, where Annabelle Knight won the puck on the hash mark on the left faceoff circle and drilled a pass through a crowd hitting Jenna Picket on the tape, who snapped a wrist-shot into the open net, just inside the right post. That goal should have been worth two points. Winthrop tied the score on a low shot through a screen, where Elizabeth didn't get a good look at the puck. The game had been a low shooting affair until the third period, when both teams started to get off more shots. The pressure was even with both sides getting shots, but the score remained tied.

Game Feb 23 PRELIM
PLAYOFF Game
Vs St. DOMS W 3-2 OT
Write-up by Nick Knight
Well the 7th seeded Greely Team (4-11-1) in Tier 1, beat the 2nd seeded St Dom's team (10-3-3) in overtime this afternoon up in Lewiston in the first playoff game of this year's MGIHA Tier 1 tournament. Bri Soper scored first with a shot, right on target, from the Blue Line, and then another good fast wrist shot from Jana Drury in the first period and found its way directly into their net and gave us two goals. Soon St Doms tied it up with a tough third period still to come. The Greely players then put in their best third period of the year by keeping their energy very high while each of them were on the ice. These players were determined to win the game in order to continue their season and they all proved it to the St Dom's team. After some great enthusiastic comments by Kelly Saucier during the break before the overtime, the team was charged up and ready to go for the win. In the first minute of overtime, Jana Drury then scored her second goal of the game (from in close with help from Megan Martelle and Kelly Saucier) to break the tie and bring an incredible amount of excitement to the team and all our loyal fans in the stands. The whole team then poured onto the ice in a wonderful winning pile of players! Liz Snyder played an excellent game in the net for us by stopping numerous shots, especially all the ones she had to!

Game Feb 23 Semi-Finals PLAYOFF Game Vs Cony L 5-1
Our Lovely Lady Rangers fell victim to the Cony Rams this afternoon on the USM olympic ice. The ice rink seemed extremely large as some of the top Cony skaters used the extra room to their advantage and turned on the jets. The Rams jumped out quickly to a 3-0 lead, and the Rangers played them even after that. The offense had some chances, but never really got clicking against the very tough Ram defense. Elizabeth had another very strong night, making some tough saves look easy and with three more years in a Greely Jersey, the goaltending looks solid. Megan Martelle scored the lone Ranger (I just love saying that) goal.

Megans Goal. The Lone Ranger Scores!

One that squeaked by Elizabeth. This one was a hard shot that went off
her shoulder (I think) and dropped across the line.

Some pre-game grins among some of our Seniors.
